When Rie Miura devised her winning look for the theme “Brave Beauty” during the Shu Uemura The Beauty Art Make-Up Competition in 2014, she was inspired by the story of The Ugly Duckling. As a testimony to her lifelong love affair with makeup, she wanted to show the world that individuals should set their own rules for what’s beautiful and what’s not. Armed with a diploma in advanced makeup artistry and hairstyling, she applied her skills and produced a creative makeup look featuring bold, feathery, winged brows which resemble a swan ready to take flight.
Since then, she has worked with international models and renowned creative directors to create fresh natural looks, edgy faces and elaborate hairstyles.
Rie has created an impressive portfolio of looks for magazine editorials, the catwalk, advertisements and commercials. As a bona fide Japanese makeup artist and hairstylist, Rie is always at the forefront of makeup and hair trends. While she is an expert at using light and shadow to create natural makeup looks, she is also adept at using her skills to achieve theatrical effects.
